The Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, led thugs to attack the Federal High of Nigeria in Yenagoa on Monday March 30.
According to a video obtained by Premium Times,
Dickson, dressed in traditional Ijaw blazers, walked into the court
premises in company of his police guards, as the miscreants stormed the
court.
Armed police officers were seen ushering the thugs into the law house.
They
disrupted court proceedings that had at least 15 lawyers, including a
pregnant woman and two Senior Advocates of Nigeria in attendance.
They
shattered properties in the facility, turned chairs in the court room
upside down and scattered files on the floor. Lawyers were seen hiding
under tables.
The Governor walked out of the court when the attack heightened.
As seen in the video, only police officer tried to help the injured people.
On why Dickson resorted to the dishonourable show; a serving Governor, Heineken Lokpobiri, who spoke to Premium Times said the court was in session to deliver a judgment on his case against the governor’s preferred senatorial candidate, Foster Ogola, over the validity of the latter’s candidacy for Bayelsa West senatorial district.
Lopkobiri
claimed his party, the People’s Democratic Party illegally substituted
his name with Foster’s, and had filed a suit accusing Foster of issuing
false information to INEC.
He added that the
attack on the court was the second, claiming that earlier, thugs had
come to seal the court and stopped the Judge from entering the court,
forcing an adjournment.
